THE BLUE AND YELLOW MACAW (ARA ARARAUNA)-

One of the most popular birds that is a favourite among kids, bird lovers, family members is the Blue and Yellow Macaw. This South African bird belongs to one of the six genera of central and South American macaws. Macaws are said to be very intelligent and social birds that can live up to 30-35 years.

The Ara ararauna has blue wings and tail, black chin, golden underparts and a green forehead that qualifies them as the most beautiful of all parrot species.

RAINBOW LORIKEET (TRICHOGLOSSUS MOLUCCANUS)-

If you love the rainbow in the sky, the rainbow lorikeet should definitely be on your list. The bird with its unmistakable bright red beak and colourful plumage does not go unnoticed even in the thickest forest.

They can be found in small groups in forests and open woodland along the east coast of Australia, eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands.

THE CRIMSON ROSELLA (PLATYCERCUS ELEGANS)-

Commonly found in the eastern and southern part of Australia, the Crimson Rosella is intermediate in colour, ranging from yellow with a reddish wash to dark orange. The young ones have characteristic blue cheeks, but the remainder of the body is olive-green to yellowish olive in colour.

The Rosella is normally encountered in small flocks and are known to feed on seeds, fruits, nectar, shoots, buds and leaves.

THE CUT THROAT FINCH (AMADINA FASCIATA)-

Commonly known as the Ribbon finch, the bird gets its name from the bright red band across its throat (only seen in males). The major portion of the finch’s body is covered with sandy colour feathers and black spots.

Although they are small in size, these birds are high on energy and are known to be happy an entertaining pet.

GOLDEN PHEASANTS OR CHINESE PHEASANTS (CHRYSOLOPHUS PICTUS)-

Native to the forests in mountainous areas of western China, the Golden pheasant is one of its kind. The average lifespan of Golden Pheasants is around 5 - 6 years; however, well taken care captive birds could live 15 or even 20 years.

The golden-yellow crest with a hint of red at the tip, a golden rump and bright red body just cannot go unnoticed in the open. Although they can fly in short bursts, they are quite clumsy in flight and spend most of their time on the ground.

THE CAROLINA DUCK (AIX SPONSA)-

Known as the brightly coloured North American duck, the Carolina duck is about 48 cm (19 in) in length with an average wingspan of 73 cm (29 in). The adult male has distinctive multi-coloured iridescent plumage and red eyes, while the female is less colourful and has a white eye riding and a whitish throat.

These birds mainly eat berries, seeds and insects, making them omnivores. The Wood Ducks are one of the only species to perch or nest in trees and their heads bob back and forth when swimming which make them easy to spot.

PEACH FACED AFRICAN LOVE BIRD (AGAPORNIS ROSEICOLLIS)-

Known for their mischievous and alert nature, the peach faced lovebirds are wonderful pets that are popular among bird lovers. The diet of these love birds mainly consists of seeds and berries. The bird is 6 inches long and comes in an array of artistic colour palate. Some of the shades are all shades of green, blue, yellow, violet, and pied-with different coloured faces.
